Nintendo appoints new president | Xpert Technology has made Dr. Cormac McCarthy its new managing director.
Japanese videogame giant Nintendo Co Ltd. said on Friday its president, Hiroshi Yamauchi, would step down on 31 May. Company director Satoru Iwata will take his place. Seventy-four-year-old Yamauchi has led the games company for more than 50 years and his resignation follows hints in January that he planned to retire.
Xpert Technology, an Irish information communications and technology group, appointed Dr. Cormac McCarthy to the position of managing director. Previously, McCarthy was a divisional business development director at Eircom. Prior to that, McCarthy was director with an international environmental business based in Belgium and the UK. He holds a BE in civil engineering from UCC, an MSc from UMIST, Manchester, in construction project management, and a PhD from the University of Birmingham in project finance.
Sun Microsystems announced the appointment of Shay Moles to the newly created position of support services country manager. According to Sun, this senior role provides a single point of contact in Ireland for all service delivery and support-related topics. Moles, who was previously regional customer services manager in EMC's data general server division in the UK, will work with customers and partners to facilitate the delivery of Sun's portfolio of support services. Prior to his roles with EMC, Moles held the position of technical manager with Reuters in Ireland.
Biotechnology company MWG Biotech has appointed Dr. Denise O'Gorman territory manager for Ireland in its Cork office.
The founder of Educational Multimedia Group is reported to have stepped down from the company's board. Twenty-nine year old Theo Lynn is said to have severed all ties with the e-learning business that he established shortly after graduating college.
Venture capitalists, Cresent Capital has appointed Hal Wilson as investment manager. Wilson moves over from Trinity Venture Capital.
Wilde Technologies has appointed Robert Barany as software development manager. Barany comes to Wilde from Trado where he was research and development manager.
Geraldine Walsh has been appointed management accountant at Datapac's computer consumables division. Prior to this, Walsh was senior software support consultant at Datapac subsidiary company Manser.
Business technology solutions provider Orygen has appointed Eric Woods as business development manager at its Dublin headquarters. He comes to Orygen from Esat Business.
Sage Ireland has appointed Philippa Taaffe as human resources director. She previously worked as human resources director at Formus Communications.
SportsSpread.com has made Tony Judge its new marketing director. Judge was previously director of golf at Mt. Juliet Estate and chief executive at Margaret's Golf and Country Club.
McData Corporation, an open storage networking solutions company, announced the appointment of Ernest J. Sampias as its chief financial officer, effective 1 June 2002. Sampias was most recently vice president finance and controller at McData, and joined the company in September 2001. Prior to joining McData, Sampias was with US West for fifteen years in various financial management positions.
Bertelsmann's on-line bookshop and entertainment store Bol.com has made Jeremy Collingwood its new managing director after the departure of Tony Prescott at the start of the year. Collingwood previously worked at PersonalPrint.com and Voxstar, and was the founding managing director of Universal Music's e-tail business Yalplay. He replaces interim managing director and consultant Bianca Cory.
UK telecoms watchdog Oftel has appointed Philip Rutnam as director of regulatory policy. Rutman was formerly at the UK Treasury where he was head of the enterprise team responsible for the Treasury's policy on business and enterprise.
