Face-to-Face: Danuta Gray, CEO O2 Ireland
On the job for 18 months, Danuta Gray has presided over Digifone's transformation into O2 Ireland, with the brand celebrating its first birthday this month. But that challenge was miniscule compared to future trials, which include 3G, adding customers in a maturing market and even wireless LANS. Matthew Clark spoke face-to-face with Gray to get the inside story on her and on O2 Ireland.

Network365 wins major award
Wednesday, February 20 2002
by Matthew Clark

Irish company Network365 was presented with a top award at the 3GSM World
Congress in Cannes, France on Tuesday night.

Network365 won the Best Wireless Application Developer Award at the event,
beating off competition which included Wolfpac Communications of the Philippines,
Feever of France and fellow Irish company Macalla Software.

"Network 365 impressed us with its 'total solution' approach, providing a range
of platforms that can work together or be used as independent tools to develop
and enhance a whole range of applications and services. It is a superb example of
the engine required to drive the market forward," said Scott Fox, chairman of
the GSM Association.

Network 365 is now in the company of some notable winners of the award in
previous years, including BT Cellnet, Optimus Telecomunicacoes (Portugal),
Mobitai Communications Corp (Taiwan), Geocell (Georgia) and MTN Networks (Sri
Lanka) to name a few.

Following the presentation of the award, Network365 said it considered the
recognition a major endorsement by the global GSM industry of the company's mzone
technology. Network365's line of mzone products allows mobile operators and users
to perform a variety of tasks through mobile devices from m-commerce transactions
to advanced messaging and optimisation of mobile content.

Other winners on the night included NTT DoCoMo, which won the Best Wireless
Handset award as well as the GSM Association Chairman's Award.

Wireless Online won the Best Infrastructure or Network Solution Product, Far
EasTone Telecommunications captured the Best Corporate Wireless Application or
Service award, Codeonline was proclaimed to have developed the Best Consumer
Application, Sonera Corporation was recognised for Best Television Commercial,
Orange won the Best Marketing Campaign award, MTN Networks was presented with the
Wireless Accessibility Award and Ericsson and Polkomtel shared the award for Best
Use of Wireless for Emergency Situations.

Now in their seventh year, the GSM Association awards recognise excellence and
innovation across the wireless communications industry and are open to companies
whose products and services support the market for the GSM family of
technologies. This year, the awards included a stronger emphasis on the consumer
and corporate benefits of wireless technology, in order to reflect the more
widespread use of the technology.

"Once again, our industry has surpassed itself," claimed Rob Conway, chief
executive of the GSM Association. "The sheer diversity, innovation and
technological excellence demonstrated by all the entries made the choice of
winners a supremely difficult task."

The GSM Association is wireless industry representative body, consisting of more
than 600 second and third generation wireless network operators and manufacturers
and suppliers to the wireless industry.
