E-Street launches new promotion system
Tuesday, February 05 2002
by Matthew Clark
E-Street, the urban data and city guide company, has launched a new marketing tool designed to help businesses promote themselves across a variety of platforms.
Companies that sign up for E-Street's Online Promotion System are given a password and username that allows them to access the E-Street management system. Through this system, companies can update information on the E-Street service about job openings, special offers, even menus and sales.
This information is subsequently broadcast to other sites which are connected to E-Street's database, like Online.ie and Irish Abroad in Ireland, allowing consumers to find specific information on businesses and restaurants in various cities.
E-Street partners like Online.ie and Lycos are common destinations for users who are looking for information on a particular city such as where different types of restaurants are located or where a certain type of shop can be found.
While most of the portals that E-Street works with are general information and e-commerce sites, E-Street is in the process of establishing links with more specialised sites such as Handbag.com.
Moreover, customers of the service will see their information broadcast over numerous formats, including WAP, the Internet, information kiosks and in-flight information services, and soon E-Street hopes to expand its adverting media to include in-car systems, SMS and interactive television.
The company's new Online Promotion System costs EUR600 per year and gives users access to all of E-Street's advertising venues.
"I think were are the first to put the capability of promoting business completely in the hands of the individual businesses," said Antony Jackson, sales manger for E-Street in Ireland. "The service is focused on more general portals now, but over the next six to nine months we hope to be able to offer users listings on more specialised portals.
"Eventually you will be able to pick and choose where your listing appears and how it appears on different sites. Pricing many change as a result of that, because some sites will be getting more specialised coverage than others," Jackson added.
In Ireland E-Street provides city guide services in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. The company also provides its city guide services for Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, London, Oxford, Reading and York in the UK.
In September 2001, E-Street.com said it secured STG750,000 in funding from an existing pool of private investors said at the time it was planning to open a new call centre possibly in Ireland, which would employs as many as 40 workers.
Toby Robertson, E-Street's chief executive officer, said that the call centre was still in the works but no decisions on its location had yet been made.
The company also admitted that there have been some delays in rolling out its new Belfast city guide, but Robertson confirmed that work on the guide was still underway and the city would become part of E-Street's offering in the next few months.
E-Street.com employs five people in Ireland in Dublin and around 30 in the London office. The company said it still plans to raise a further STG3 million in funding from institutional investors next year.
