Rococo announces new funding
Tuesday, January 08 2002
by Matthew Clark
Irish company Rococo Software officially announced on Tuesday that it had secured new funding from Enterprise Ireland totalling more than EUR950,000.
Last summer, Rococo raised EUR3.2 million from Trinity Venture Capital and Tuesday's new investment from Enterprise Ireland brings the company's total funding for the year to EUR4.1 million.
The company said it would use the new cash injection to bring Rococo's product line to market. The firm, which develops wireless software for use in bluetooth networks, has two main products, the Impronto Simulator and the Impronto Developer Kit, which will be officially launched in March of this year. In terms of customers, the firm targets java developers, corporates building mobile workforce solutions, independent software vendors providing Bluetooth applications as well as equipment manufacturers providing Java Bluetooth solutions on their devices.
Until now Rococo has achieved its revenues through consultancy work with clients such as AIB and the Halifax in the UK. In fact, the company is thought to already be profitable. Rococo was established in 2000 by three former senior executives at Iona Technologies and a report in the Sunday Business Post from November estimates the business to be worth around EUR19 million. In fact, that report also said that in the first 10 months of 2000, the business had revenues of around USD1.1 million.
Rococo is also a member of the JSR-82 Expert Group and is an associate member of the Bluetooth SIG. Both groups are developing standards for Bluetooth and Java. "We have the advantage of understanding the evolution and rationale of these technologies, which allows us to get our product to market more quickly than companies who do not participate in the process," said founder and chief executive officer, Sean O'Sullivan.
Moreover, the company was voted one of the top ten technology start-ups in Europe by the Infoconomist magazine in the US in late 2001.
Rococo currently employs around 20 and a spokesperson for the company told ElectricNews.Net that the business expects to boost staff levels over the next few months. Apart from O'Sullivan, Karl McCabe and Ross O'Crowley helped to found the business.
