Internet advertising revenue in the second quarter was down almost 22 percent year-on-year, according to new research. The Internet Ad Revenue report, conducted by the New Media Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers and sponsored by the Interactive Advertising Bureau, found that Q2 Internet ad revenues were down to USD1.46 billion, a 4 percent drop from USD1.52 billion in Q1. The study also found that for the first six months of this year, Internet ad revenues totalled USD2.98 billion, off 21 percent from the same period in 2001.
The board of COLT Telecom Group has announced that, as anticipated, hedge fund Highberry Ltd has presented a petition to the High Court for the appointment of an administrator to COLT. Earlier this month ElectricNews.net reported that Highberry had claimed Colt would not be able to repay or refinance its bonds when they become due between 2005 and 2009. Colt's board says there is no basis for Highberry's action.
E-security company Baltimore Technologies has launched Trusted Business Suite, a suite of e-security applications aimed at the corporate market. Baltimore says the products offer improved security in the domain of networking, messaging and documents. Trusted Business Suite makes use of digital signatures and digital certificates to provide security for Virtual Private Networks, Web-based information exchange, secure messaging and other commonly used applications.
EWare, a provider of wireless and Internet CRM solutions, has appointed outsourcing company EAME Marketing to find and manage exclusive partners in Scandinavia, Southern Europe, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and South Africa. EWare said it chose EAME Marketing for the three-year deal on the basis of its experience in the development of distribution channels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
A UK water company has won an award for its application of technology from XIAM, a specialist in mobile messaging applications. Wessex Water received the "Wireless Revolutionary" prize at the SearchNetworking.com Fall 2002 Networking Innovator Awards in Chicago. Wessex Water used XIAM's technology for the deployment of an SMS-based worker safety monitoring system.
O2 Ireland has announced the launch of O2 Games Arcade for mobile phones. O2 customers with Java-enabled handsets will be able to download a variety of arcade-style games for their phones, such as Oilrig, Highway Racer, Forbidden Jungle and Pinball. Games cost EUR2.50 each to download, with an additional charge for the time spent downloading.
Mobile phone giant Nokia is teaming up with international sports marketing company IMG to deliver a new multimedia messaging service (MMS). The two companies are developing an MMS "Essential Sports Service" that aims to deliver sports images, news, updates and audio commentary to sports fans' mobile phones. The service will be tailored to suit the needs of different regions -- Europe, the US and Asia Pacific -- and will be available to Nokia's operator customers, who will then be able to brand their services individually.
