The MediaStream DSP will be deployed in Nvidia's recently announced Media Communications Processor (MCP). The MCP is an advanced multimedia processor delivering broadband connectivity, communications and the latest audio capabilities. The audio portion of the MCP will include a pair of high performance Parthus MediaStream DSPs executing up to 4 billion operations per second.
Nvidia's first deployment of the MCP containing Parthus MediaStream is for Microsoft's Xbox. Scheduled for release in the autumn of next year, Xbox is Microsoft's much-anticipated video game console.
Last month, another Dublin company involved in the X-Box story, Havok, announced that it is working with Microsoft to provide its physics development tools to Xbox developers and that it is the approved developers for the new X-box console. The company specialises in virtual game physics and its technology is used to develop the physical interaction in gaming environments for the PS2 and PC. Havok has also developed the first Game Development Kit for the PlayStation2 which went on sale in Ireland last week.
Parthus would not be drawn on how much the licence is worth, but Parthus licences would generally cost in excess of one million pounds. Parthus' mobile Internet platforms are used by microprocessor companies and electronics manufacturers in MP3, GPS, GPRS, GSM, 3G and Bluetooth applications. Parthus has its headquarters in Dublin and has offices in six countries. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.
