This huge revenue growth was achieved because of an increase in demand for is software solutions, the company said. SAS, the world's biggest private software firm, develops data mining and decision support software designed to help customers rationalise expenditure and increase productivity.
Sales of SAS Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Solutions, which include solutions for marketing automation and customer analytics, accounted for 67 percent of SAS Ireland revenue in 2001. However the company also attributes the revenue increase to growth in the hi-tech manufacturing and bio-technology sectors.
"More and more companies in Ireland recognise the need for solid intelligence throughout every aspect of their business which delivers significant business benefits," said Patrick Durkin, SAS Ireland country manager. "This has never been more true than in challenging economic situations where investment and cost cutting decisions must be well informed and managers throughout the business must have strategic information systems to support them."
SAS Ireland's revenue growth is consistent with strong revenue growth throughout Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Revenue across SAS EMEA was EUR500 million, a growth of 18 percent.
"We believe our competitive differentiation lies in both the completeness and the domain expertise of our solution offering," said Patrick Durkin. "Ultimately, this allows us help companies get a quicker return on investment at a lower risk. The uniqueness of our proposition positions us strongly for continued growth in 2002."
In March of this year SAS purchased ABC, a provider of activity-based analytic management software following an 18-month collaboration between SAS and ABC Technologies on XML-based standard for scorecarding applications.
SAS, which was named the leading business intelligence vendor by software revenue in 2001 by IDC, employs around 20 people in Ireland and its customers here include AIB Bank, Bank of Ireland and the Revenue Commissioners. SAS has over 8,500 employees globally and revenues in 2000 of over USD1 billion.
