The city guides will contain details of nearly 6000 businesses, such as pubs, restaurants, shops and cinemas in the four cities, available through standard and mobile Internet devices.
The city guide of Dublin has been on-line since January this year and Belfast will be added this autumn. "Our Dublin site has approximately 5000 visitors each day and that number is still increasing," Alice Nugent, E-street.com's chief executive in Ireland, said on Friday. "Our users are often tourists that want to visit the city in question, but also residents or people that are thinking about moving to the city."
According to Nugent, businesses in Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford were very enthusiastic about the new city guides. "They thought it was a good idea and very useful," she said.
E-street.com has developed its own database manipulation software, which ensures that the site can be searched by a number of methods, including business name, location, business type and keyword. The site also has a facility called "Show my nearest," which gives a list of businesses close to the user's location with the distance.
Nugent claims the Web site will have details of all businesses in the four cities. "Our strength is our completeness," she said. "And the fact that we update our directory every six weeks."
The Web site, which was voted Internet Site of the Year 2000 in the UK, so far has details about cities in only the UK and Ireland. "But we see ourselves expanding to mainland Europe in the future," Nugent said.
E-street.com is not only accessible on the Internet, but is also WAP-enabled. The WAP services include the "Easy Find" and "Show my nearest" facility.
