Belfast job boost based on third generation wireless boom

Aepona is to create 97 new jobs in Belfast over the next two years. The company was created from the services division of Apion following the STG150 million acquisition of Apion’s WAP product division by American company Phone.com.

The company currently employs 120 people in Belfast and Dublin and will spend STG3.2 million expanding its current operations. The Northern Ireland Industrial Development Board will invest STG986,000 through employment and training grants over three years.

Aepona’s Managing Director, Liam McQuillan, said the investment would also be used to expand the company’s capability in third generation networks.

“This investment will enable us to further develop from a software services only company to a services and product software telecoms company,” he said. “We are fast developing a reputation to deliver high quality software for the global market. Our current clients are based in Japan, North America and Europe, the three most innovative regions in telecoms.”
