Nokia and Sonera have started piloting Multimedia Messaging technology | A survey has named Openet Telecom as a company in which venture capitalists would most like to invest

Nokia and Sonera have started piloting Multimedia Messaging (MMS) technology and services. The pilot Sonera is conducting with Nokia MMS products is one the very first in the world evaluating end-to-end MMS technology in the live network environment. In the MMS pilot Sonera is using the Nokia Artuse MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) Centre, a high-capacity platform which enables new multimedia messaging services combining rich content, such as audio and video clips, photographs and images, with traditional text messaging. In addition, Nokia provides Sonera with the Nokia 9210 Communicators' special software that supports the MMS technology.

A Wall Street Journal survey has named Dublin-based, Openet Telecom as one of the companies in which European venture capitalists would most like to invest. Openet Telecom is the only Irish company listed in the quarterly Venture Capital Envy Poll conducted by The Wall Street Journal. The Envy Portfolio is compiled by asking a panel of venture capitalists to name two European-based, venture-backed companies they admire but in which they have been unable to invest. The objective is to build a picture of which early stage companies are currently generating the most excitement in the VC community.

Following the announcement that Bijan Khezri will be appointed a non-executive director of Baltimore, the company said that he purchased 600,000 ordinary shares of the company at an average price of STG20.88 per share.

A Novo Broadband, announced that it has signed an agreement with Dublin-based Lake Communications to provide repair, refurbishment and upgrade services for Lake's telephony equipment sold in the US under the Encore brand name. The activities outlined under this contract will be carried out immediately at A Novo Broadband's service center located in Columbus, Ohio, which is in close proximity to Lake's midwestern clientele of broadband system operators.

Software company, Aepona which specialises in telecommunications network infrastructure, has launched a product which will help telecommunications companies generate new revenues over existing networks as well as providing a seamless gateway to 3G services. With its new "Causeway Parlay Product Suite", Belfast headquartered, Aepona has developed a value added services platform employing Sun Microsystems' JAIN API specifications.

Infonet Services, a provider of global communications services for multinationals, announced the launch of Infonet Consulting, a business unit offering network-based consulting solutions for multinational enterprises.

In response to an interruption in the MSN Messenger service, MSN vice president Rich Bray issued the following statement, "We are pleased to announce that the interruptions to the MSN Messenger Service have been resolved. All customers worldwide again have access to their MSN Messenger accounts, and more than 99 percent of all MSN Messenger customers have had their contact lists restored.

Novell announced that it has completed the acquisition of Cambridge Technology Partners, adding new services and consulting capability to complement Novell's industry Net services software. Jack Messman, president and chief executive officer at Cambridge Technology Partners has been named president and chief executive officer of Novell. Eric Schmidt, formerly chief executive officer, will continue to offer strategic counsel as chairman of the Novell board of directors. At a special meeting of Cambridge shareholders, held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, approximately 60 percent of Cambridge's outstanding shares were voted in favor of the Novell merger. Novell Ireland employs 140 people at its headquarters in Dublin. In Ireland, the company carries out functions on behalf of Novell EMEA, including software localisation, manufacturing, distribution, financial control, treasury and a sales operations.
