Esat customers will be able to listen and reply to e-mails from any telephone anywhere in the world, using voice recognition technology, thanks to a product launched by Red Circle.

Red Circle Technologies, which specialises in speech technology, is claiming a European first with the launch of eVoice.

It operates using voice recognition and Red Circle is calling it a breakthrough product in the area.

The company had entered a partnership arrangement with Esat Fusion to offer the product exclusively to customers of Oceanfree, IOL Free and IOL Gold for at least three months.

As a result, the product will be branded Esat Fusion Talking Email. Esat Fusion is to release full details in the coming weeks.

eVoice works by registering the speech patterns of users so it can understand a number of simple instructions, including recitation of an account number and a password.

It then reads e-mail to users who are out of the office. Users can browse, create, delete, forward and reply to their e-mails. Responses to e-mails are sent as .WAV sound files.

"This is Europe's first speech enabled e-mail system that can be accessed from any mobile or land line phone," stated Ger Dowling, Red Circle founder.

"People on the move are able to listen to and respond to e-mail using ordinary speech, without having to access a laptop, an Internet cafe or engage in text messaging," he maintained.

Dowling added, "Speech technology is not science fiction. It is here and now and major corporations around the world are using speech technology to provide business solutions."

Red Circle, which spent 12 months enhancing eVoice, say it is network independent, handsfree, voice driven and can be used from any mobile or land line handset.

Dun Laoghaire-based Red Circle, was founded three years ago as Call2, a company which specialised in voice software used with touch-tone phone systems.
