Irish banking software company, Eontec will employ 20 new people as part of an expansion of its North American offices.

The company currently employs 25 people in the United States. Eontec now employs over 300 worldwide up from 134 a year ago.

The company has opened two new offices in Charlotte, North Carolina and Toronto, Canada.

"The new premises will solidify our sales support and professional services infrastructure in North America," said Jim Callan, chief executive officer of Eontec.

"This expansion is evidence of Eontec's strength and commitment to the banking and financial industry in North America," Callan said.

The move was prompted by the company's success with super regional and money centre financial institutions across the US and Canada.

Eontec received over USD10 million in funding at the end of April, which it said it planned to invest in a new marketing programme for its 'Bankframe' Java-based multi-channel financial software.

The company received funding from a consortium of investors, including entrepreneur Denis O'Brien, Davy Stockbrokers and New York-based investment bank Allen & Company.

The product's architecture allows banks or financial institutions to transfer information across all channels whether on-line or off-line.

The company said the software integrates all back office systems of an organisation.

The new North American headquarters of the company in Charlotte, which will involve the relocation of its existing headquarters, is designed to accommodate additional employees for sales, support and services.

"Eontec's products and services are being well accepted and our customer base continues to grow," said Todd James, senior vice president of business development and sales of Eontec North America.

James said the company was on a path of diligent growth.

The company said that Charlotte's large resource pool of skilled professionals has already significantly contributed to the company's success and will continue to be an advantage.

The company's Toronto office will provide customer service and technical support for all of Eontec's North American customers, as well as an expansion of the company's technology unit in Dublin.

Eontec was founded in 1994 and has its headquarters in Dublin.

The company has offices in Ireland, Germany, US, India and UK.
