Dublin-based software development company, Xiam Limited, has secured second round funding to aid expansion into Europe.

The EUR6.7 million has been provided by the international venture capital firms ADD Partners, Vertex Management, Delta Partners, as well as Enterprise Ireland.

Xiam has developed 'information routing' software that allows the connection of a main server to a mobile phone. If offers a two-way, rule based communication system, through which any information can be accessed and updated from a computer to a mobile device, via SMS, WAP or i-mode.

"You can extract customer details from a database, and request that they are sent to your mobile phone," Anneli Tobiasson, head of marketing communications at Xiam Limited told ElectricNews.Net. "That way if you are out on the road you can still receive information."

Last year, Xiam concluded a major deal with Eircell, which saw the mobile phone company offering comprehensive, bi-directional SMS capabilities to corporate clients.

In September 2000, Xiam launched a software package that enables organisations to set up and manage their own secure mobile chat rooms, accessible either by mobile phone or the Internet.

The money secured in the second round of funding will be used to continue research and development in the area of information routing and in further developing the company's product.

Xiam was set up in Dublin in August 1999. Currently the company has offices in Dublin, London, Singapore, Tokyo and Paris. It employs over 50 people in total, with 40 in its Dublin offices. It plans in the future to expand its offices although nothing concrete has been decided upon yet.
