Following new deals, Network365 recruits
Monday, December 10 2001
by Matthew Clark
Following new deals throughout Ireland, the UK and Asia, Network365 plans to increase its staff levels by as much as 20 percent, the firm said on Monday.
Currently, Dublin-based Network365 employs around 70 worldwide, including 45 in Ireland, twice what the business employed at the start of 2001. The company's latest recruitment drive follows the announcement of new deals in Hong Kong, the UK, Sri Lanka and in Ireland in the past three months including an agreement with mmO2 for the roll out of services on its 3G network in the Isle of Man.
The deal with mmO2 will see Network365 participate in a 12-month trial of 3G services for Manx Telecom customers which will include a 3G-based shopping mall hosted on Network365's mzone technology. The licensing of mzone avatar, a secure mobile wallet, will allow Manx Telecom's 3G customers to buy goods such as CDs, books, cinema and concert tickets, flowers, chocolates, wines, gifts and toys on their mobile phones.
Already the company has been in similar licensing deals with mmO2's Irish subsidiary Digifone. According to Evanna Kearins, Network365's marketing communications manager, it was through Digifone that the company was introduced to O2 and was able to vie for the contract.
Separately, Network365 announced that Meteor Mobile Communications, Ireland's third mobile operator, has launched a new euro compliant Web shop powered by mzone kiosk, a mobile shopping solution for merchants. The new Meteor Mall is a virtual shopping mall where subscribers can buy phones and SIM cards on the Web.
But Kearins said that the company's deal with mobile operator CSL in Hong Kong was its largest to date. She told ElectricNews.Net that the six-figure CSL deal, for mzone avatar, had also led to other agreements that the company expects to announce in January. In fact Network365 is expected to announce a deal in the first part of 2002 that will see it roll out its applications on a multi-nation basis through a major global operator, Kearins said.
She also said that Asia is currently the company's biggest market, but said the rollout of infrastructure throughout Europe would give the company greater potential for new customers in 2002.
One year ago, the mobile applications company raised EUR15 million in second round funding through Amadeus Capital Partners and Trinity Venture Capital, and according to Kearins the company now hopes to be profitable in 2003. It was founded in 1999 and now has offices in Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, the UK and the USA.
The company's range of mzone products includes mzone kiosk, a mobile shopping solution for merchants; mzone avatar, a mobile solution which enables secure payment, personalisation and identification; mzone maestro, which delivers optimised content and services; and mzone agora is a mobile messaging application platform.
