Face to Face: Cyril McGuire, CEO Trintech
At its height, Irish payment security company Trintech was valued at around USD4.5 billion and its sibling founders Cyril and John McGuire were worth USD650 million apiece. Since those heady days the company's shares have lost 99.5 percent of their value and a recent four for one split did little to boost prices. Baltimore has released an e-security solution that automates the issuance of
digital certificates | Intel has released Ethernet storage software to the open
source community Baltimore Technologies has announced UniCERT Certificate Deployment
Service (CDS), a new e-security solution that simplifies and automates the
issuance and life cycle management of digital certificates. Baltimore UniCERT CDS
provides a faster, more efficient, and cost effective method for offering
PKI-secured applications such as e-mail, VPN, e-commerce and other Internet
transactions. This system has been developed in partnership with mPKI, a provider
of next generation PKI management software.

Intel Corporation released software to the open source community, enabling
organizations to more easily build storage systems that use common Ethernet
components. Intel also announced that it is chairing a multi-vendor group to help
accelerate the deployment of next generation standards that will extend Ethernet
to include networked storage. Intel's open source reference software will help
storage device vendors quickly develop products, such as switches, routers and
adapters, which are compliant with the Internet Small Computer Systems Interface
(iSCSI) specification. The iSCSI software reference implementation developed by
Intel is available free of charge at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/intel-iscsi/.

Educational Multimedia Corporation has been selected to provide e-learning
solutions to NHS Tayside in Scotland. Under the agreement Educational
Multimedia Corporation's range of e-learning solutions will be deployed across
the NHS Tayside corporate intranet, enabling its 14,000 regional staff access to
training anytime, anywhere.

Conduit Software announced the US launch of its Nouveau Directory
Assistance workstation. Nouveau is a modular workstation designed to allow
service providers to provide a unified interface allowing access into multiple
database systems. It provides flexible call handling, call scripting, call
completion as well as wireless features.

Jupiter forecasts that the adoption of broadband will be slow across
Europe citing the lack of competition amongst the access operators, low customer
demand and the high price of the technology as the main reasons. Take up will be
gradual over the next five years, with only 14 percent of European households
using broadband by 2005. By that time, 32 percent of on-line households will be
accessing the Internet from broadband. The company's projections indicate that
the Nordic region, with the highest Internet penetration in Europe, will adopt
broadband the fastest. The report predicts that 30 percent of households in
Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark will be using broadband by 2005 while only 17
percent of Germans and 15 percent of British households will be using broadband
by that time.

Mobile Internet portal, Genie and FHM.com, the flagship site of Emap
Digital, announced a STG250,000 strategic partnership. This alliance will deliver
content from FHM, through mobile and Internet channels to both FHM and Genie
customers.

Etel, the business unit of Cesky Telecom is to be renamed Imaginet.

Borland Software Corporation, a provider of e-business implementation
solutions, announced its strategic expansion of operations in the Irish market,
with the opening of a Borland sales office in Dublin. The sales operation will
add to the existing manufacturing and logistics facilities Borland already has in
Dublin and Galway. The company already has key customers in Ireland including
Ericsson and first-e, Europe's first Internet only bank.

US Job seekers found new positions -- 37 percent faster than a year ago --
despite record job cuts and a virtually zero-growth economy. It took discharged
managers and executives just 2.27 months to find new jobs in the first quarter,
according to the latest Challenger Job Market Index released Tuesday by
Challenger, Gray & Christmas. In the first quarter last year, it took
3.58 months to find new employment. On average, Challenger expects discharged
job seekers to find a new position in 3.2 months or less.

Cape Clear Software announced the general availability of the Beta release
of CapeConnect Two for J2EE. CapeConnect Two is a Web Services Platform for Java
2 Platform, Enterprise Edition and Enterprise JavaBeans. A Web Services Platform
enables the creation, customization, and hosting of Simple Object Access Protocol
(SOAP)-based services on the Internet. The CapeConnect Web Services Platform
allows EJB components to be exposed as Web services by generating Web Services
Description Language (WSDL) files and then automatically and dynamically provides
SOAP routing and marshalling for those components.

Clarus Corporation, a business-to-business e-commerce software solution
provider, has signed an alliance agreement with COMIT Gruppe who will become a
specialist Systems Integrator for Clarus Settlement in Europe.
