By answering a series of questions users can script their own customised, spoken hypnosis on the Internet.
Visitors can choose from 32 hypnosis topics including stress management, smoking management, weight loss and sports performance. The questions would appear the same regardless of the topic but it is the imagery and answers provided by users that is important, says Richard Blumenthal inventor of HypnoSoft and president of Thinkwell. Visiters are also invited to create their own topic if none of those available cater for their needs. Once the questions have been answered and submitted visitors must pay USD12.99 to receive the MP3 sound file which will contain their hypnosis.
Thinkwell Corp. has been developing HypnoSoft for the last five years and in the initial stages it experimented with standalone software. "As the Internet and bandwidth got better, and the sheer number of people enjoying the use of the Internet increased, it looked like PC-based software applications would soon be obsolete and server-based applications would be much more suitable," says Richard Blumenthal.
He explains that the hypnosis MP3 files, now 1MB, would have been 12MB .wav files and impossible to e-mail because of their size.
The HypnoSoft style of interaction leads the user from one step to the next with plain language instructions on each screen. The file can be played on a computer or an MP3 player. There is an e-mail facility on the site to check the compatibility of customers' computers with Hypnosoft the sound files.
Thinkwell Corp. emphases that users are always in control and will not be successfully hypnotised unless they want to be. The package aims to jog the imagination of users.
Blumenthal says the computer awakens users when the hypnosis is over, or if not users will bring themselves back to ordinary thinking.
Thinkwell is currently working on other Internet-based self-help and educational projects though these are not hypnosis-based.
