Irish company Globogift, a gift certificate Web site, has signed a deal with one of Japan's largest marketing and advertising companies, Asatsu.

Under the deal, Globogift will provide Asatsu with the ability to offer European participants in its KNOTS Club research programme gift certificates from international department stores as an incentive to become panellists.

Asatsu conducts market research on behalf of Japan Airlines, Coca-Cola, Nike, Fuji Film and Mitsubishi.

"It allows Asatsu to reward people for answering its questions without having to worry about the logistics of sending them all gifts," said Globogifts' founder and chairman, Eddie Reynolds. "For consumers it means they can choose what their reward will be."

Reynolds declined to give ElectricNews.Net the financial details of the deal.

This is the latest in a number of deals that Globogift has secured recently as it actively targets the corporate incentive and reward market, which is worth USD24 billion annually in the US. Among the companies that have signed-up with Globogift are Delta Air Lines, Dell in Australia and Gateway EMEA.

"Previously, many companies with international presences struggled to reward their overseas staff without incurring huge costs in terms of time and money. But we are able to offers these companies a global spread as we have a presence in over 30 countries," commented Reynolds.

The site enables users to purchase gift certificates from leading department store chains across the world such as Debenhams in the UK and Macy's in the US, which can then be sent to friends or workers globally. Globogift takes a commission from the department store for every gift certificate it sells. The commission, said Reynolds, varies from store to store.

According to Reynolds, the company, which was founded in 1999, initially targeted the consumer market, but now close to 70 percent of its revenues are from the corporate sector. "It is a growing market and we have only made a small dent in it so far," he said. Reynolds expects, however, that the split between the consumer and corporate market will eventually be 50/50.

Globogift recently took first prize in the "Innovation in Marketing" category at the National Sales & Marketing Awards.

Globogift employs 12 in Ireland and is at www.globogift.com.
