Through MapQuest Direct, businesses of all sizes can drive customers to their local store locations by adding MapQuest business locator to their Web sites, according to the company.
MapQuest, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AOL, says this new functionality will help businesses increase customer satisfaction by making it easier and more convenient for consumers to locate their bricks and mortar stores.
The new Web service guides users through an easy, interactive process to create customised maps and Web pages for their business that display addresses, highlight location information and provide driving directions.
The MapQuest Direct mapmaking service is available for an annual subscription fee equivalent to less than USD1 per day, which has allowed the company to target small business owners in particular as potential clients.
It allows the owner to create a "locations" link on his or her Web site so that visitors simply click on the link to view the address of the business locations and then click on the link next to the closest address to get driving directions.
MapQuest says that Web usage studies have shown that 90 percent of Internet users expect retail Web sites to include a store locator with maps and directions to the nearest location.
MapQuest.com, a major provider of on-line maps, routing and global location services, claim the new facility drives more business, improves customer service, increases Web traffic, is affordable, fast and easy and can be customised.
"MapQuest Direct is a cost-effective tool that provides the best solution for driving customer traffic to businesses of any size," said Michael Nappi, vice president and general manager of AOL Business Solutions.
MapQuest is US-based and launched the industry's first on-line mapping site in 1996.
