Thomas Crosbie Media has launched an on-line version of Kerry provincial newspaper, The Kingdom.

The site (http://www.kingdompaper.com/) contains news, sport and business content from The Kingdom, as well as a bulletin board and a chat room. The bulletin board has sections for sport, events and places along with a special section called Family Search, which offers help for those trying to track down a long-lost relative or discover their ancestry.

"The site is targeted at our usual readership and beyond. This includes people from the general Kerry area, Kerry people abroad who want to stay in touch with local news and Kerry businesses," Aidan Holland, General Manager, The Kingdom, told ElectricNews.Net.

The site will be up-dated on a weekly basis.

Thomas Crosbie Media is a media company which was set up earlier this year to produce an on-line version of The Irish Examiner and other regional newspaper titles owned by publishers Thomas Crosbie Holdings. The company has 17 staff including seven journalists.

The company has partnerships with other firms and sells to content to partners including Online.ie, Campus.ie and Golfserv.ie. The company has not been tendering for external Web production contracts, since its function is the marketing and distribution of existing Thomas Crosbie Holdings publications.

Other provincial newspapers owned by Thomas Crosbie Holdings are expected to come on-line over the coming months, including The Western People, The Newry Democrat and The Down Democrat.

Another Kerry newspaper, The Kerryman can be viewed on-line through the Unison portal site (http://www.unison.ie), which offers links to more than 35 provincial papers.

"Our Web site has been very successful. It has attracted new readers from around the world and generally raised the profile of the paper," Emmet Maloney, Deputy Editor, The Kerryman, told ElectricNews.Net. The Kerryman is also available on the Kerry Web, a directory of Kerry-related Web sites.

The Pew Research Centre in the US found recently that news is one of the most popular services on-line and television news audiences are declining as Internet news audiences grow. In Ireland, 32 percent of Internet users access on-line news services, Nielsen's NetRatings has found.
