Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Ascential Software have launched a new board game to help media companies cope with the complexities of the industry.

"Digitopia - The Board Game" is the name of the new game and it forms part of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's digital media offering. According to the company it gives media companies the chance to take risks, experiment with strategy and put ideas to the test in a virtual and fun environment.

Digitopia will not be for sale, but Cap Gemini Ernst & Young has organised a road show where potential customers will play the game.

"It's a bit of fun, really," Peter Minogue, spokesman for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young told ElectricNews.Net. "It's a bit like Monopoly, with dice, pawns and cards. But there is an underlying message, which is, your assets, such as archives, are more valuable than you might think. And our company has the experience to help you use those assets more effectively. This game is an awareness driver."

Players represent media companies, both content providers and broadcasters, and compete to increase shareholder value and gain market share. The game covers the strategic elements that Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Ascential Software think media companies need. Examples are skills such as managing content, managing broadcasts and buying technology.

David Ingram, head of the media sector at consulting firm Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, said, "Media companies today have a compelling need to digitise and manage their content. Understanding the importance of digital media management is critical if companies are to leverage and fully exploit their content across diverse distribution platforms. 'Digitopia - The Board Game' can help them understand this before they do it for real."

He also said content providers need to know how to manage their content to ensure they are making the most out of their archives while broadcasters need to ensure that they are getting good returns on their technology and investments.

Cap Gemini Ernst & Young is a management and IT consulting services company and employs around 60,000 people worldwide.

Ascential Software Corporation is a provider of Information Asset Management solutions to large media companies and is headquartered in Westboro, Massachusetts.

Cap Gemini Ernst & Young on the Web is at www.cgey.com and Ascential Software is at www.ascentialsoftware.com.
