Irish Software Association names Paul O'Dea as its new chairman | Bernard Ebbers is named 'chairman emeritus' at WorldCom
Paul O'Dea, chief executive officer of Ascend, has been elected chairman of the Irish Software Association (ISA). He succeeds Billy Huggard, managing director of CPG Group, who has completed his term of office. His appointment will take effect from 3 June 2002.
Ascend's main line of business is to assist entrepreneurs working with early stage hi-tech companies and to develop and implement international growth strategies for such firms. Prior to Ascend, O'Dea was a co-founder of banking software company Credo, which was acquired by Misys. He was chairman of the Irish Software Association in 1996 and is also a member of the governing board of ICT Ireland.
Conor Shaw has been promoted to senior director at Oracle iSD with responsibility for the sales and interaction centre for EMEA. Other appointments at Oracle include three new members at the firm's Internet sales division, Michiel Smuts, Jochen Heyden and Brenda Greaves. Smuts and Heyden both join Oracle from IBM, while Greaves comes from Quantam Ireland.
The University of Limerick has appointed professor Vincent Cunnane as the new vice president of research.
Skynet Telecom has recruited Eoin O'hEochaidh as its chief technical officer. O'hEochaidh moves over from Digital Communications.
Data Direct has made Patrick Rafferty its newest senior account manager. Rafferty comes to Data Direct with over six years experience in the IT industry and was formerly a sales supervisor at Gateway.
WorldCom Inc. said that Bernard Ebbers, who resigned as chief executive, was named "chairman emeritus" and will serve as an unpaid consultant to the company. The "chairman emeritus" position is essentially an honorary role and carries no official duties or responsibilities.
Peregrine Systems, which is in the midst of an internal audit after questions were raised about its accounting, has seen Steve Gardner, its chief executive, resign. Matt Gless, chief financial officer and executive vice president of finance, has also left the company. The two men are to be replaced by John Moores, who was chosen as the new chairman, while Rick Nelson was appointed acting chief executive. Fred Gerson was named acting chief financial officer and Charles La Bella was appointed as executive vice president and senior counsel.
Digital marketing firm, Agency.com, has appointed Eben Lenderking as its European chief executive. Lenderking takes up the newly created role immediately, having joined the agency last May as chief operations officer for Europe. He will report to Chan Suh, Agency.com's chief executive and chairman. Lenderking will now oversee both Agency.com and its on-line advertising outfit i-traffic.
Avaya, a provider of voice and data networks to businesses, announced that Anil Srivastava has been named vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). In this role, Srivastava is now responsible for driving sales through Avaya's multi-channel programme and sales operations across the EMEA region, including sales programmes, channel management and pre-sales.
