WorldCom, Sun Microsystems and ITV all lose top executives | Version 1 Software appoints Kevin Jones as its managing director

Software company Wilde Technologies has appointed Robert Barany as software development manager. Heading up the software development department, Barany will drive development of the company's visual component assembly technologies. He joins Wilde Technologies from Trados where he was the research and development director.

Kevin Jones, chairman of Version 1 Software, has been appointed managing director by the company's board. Jones was appointed chairman of the Irish IT consultancy in 2000 and he will take over the managing director role following his departure as chief executive officer of Airtel ATN. Prior to that, Jones worked as the general manager of Oracle Corporation Ireland between 1987 and 1998. Kevin Jones is also chairman of Schizophrenia Ireland.

John Dalton has taken up the position of account manager with Data Solutions in Ireland. Before joining Data Solutions, Dalton was a sales executive at Cara.

Sage Ireland has named Clare Denvir as training centre manager and John Antunes as division manager with Sage accountants division. Before joining Sage, Denvir was joint director/training manager for Productive Solutions. Antunes was general manager of TAS Software, South Africa.

ITV, the UK television network that is jointly owned by Carlton Communications Plc and Granada Plc, said its chief executive officer Stuart Prebble will leave. The firm named two executives, Mick Desmond and Clive Jones, as managing directors who will replace him. The announcement follows the collapse of ITV Digital earlier this week.

Carlo Crighton has been appointed the head of Edelman PR Worldwide's international practice. Based in Ireland, Crighton will direct the Edelman technology PR practice in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America. Previously he worked for rival public relations company Text 100 International.

Manser Ireland, a software company within the Datapac Group, appointed Frank Corr as its general manager. Corr was previously the software services manager for Manser.

Software company Ion Technologies has appointed Shane Kavanagh as technical director. Kavanagh is the software project leader responsible for developing the company's flagship product, IonData Lite. He previously worked with Apple Computers and AIB Group.

Sun Microsystems has announced two significant and newly created positions -- chief security officer and director of the newly created Sun global security program office. Sun's security expert Whitfield Diffie has been appointed as chief security officer and Joanne Masters has been made director of Sun's global security program office. Both appointments are effective immediately.

In related news, Ed Zander, president of Sun Microsystems, has retired after 15 years with the company. Scott McNealy, chairman and chief executive officer, will fill the role starting 01 July 2002.

Bernard J. Ebbers resigned as chief executive of WorldCom Inc., the company that he built into one of the world's largest telecommunications empires. Ebbers who is 60 years old, made the announcement on Friday. John Sidgmore, WorldCom's vice chairman, takes his place.
