Fujitsu Siemens announces new president | eTel appoints managing director of its Czech subsidiary
Dr. Adrian V. Hammerstein is to become the new president and chief executive of Fujitsu Siemens Computers. He will take up his new post immediately from Paul Stodden who is moving to Siemens. Hammerstein was previously chief financial officer and an executive member of the board at Fujitsu Siemens Computers and drove the company's strategic reorientation with Paul Stodden. He joined Fujitsu Siemens Computers from Siemens AG, where he had been on the group executive board of the information and communication products group since July 1998.
The board of directors of Novell announced the appointment of Novell president and chief executive officer, Jack Messman, as chairman of the board, after accepting the resignation from the Novell board of former chairman Dr. Eric Schmidt. In July 2001, Messman, formerly chairman and chief executive officer of Cambridge Technology Partners, replaced Schmidt as chief executive officer of Novell following the Novell acquisition of Cambridge. Schmidt currently serves as chairman and chief executive officer at Google.
eTel Group, the Irish-based Central European corporate telecommunications provider, has appointed Ivan Pilny as managing director of its Czech subsidiary. Pilny, who was the chairman of state phone company Czech Telecom, will be responsible for leading eTel's Czech business on a daily basis. Pilny established Microsoft Czechoslovakia in 1992 and then left to found ICT (Information, Communication & Technology) while also acting as an advisor to companies such as Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Skoda, Volkswagen and Seznam. He then joined Czech Telecom as non-executive chairman of the board of directors focused on the areas of customer care, marketing and Internet strategy. Richard Pinc, the current Czech managing director, will assume the role of chief operating officer in the new management structure.
Siebel Systems has announced the formation of its first European board of directors, formed to guide and advise Siebel's management team on the development of its European business and to assist Siebel Systems with its strategy of deploying e-government applications within local, national and pan-European Government departments. The Siebel Systems Europe board includes Giuliano Amato, former Italian Prime Minister; Jacques Attali, Special Advisor to former French President Francois Mitterrand; John Major, former British Prime Minister; and Dr. Horst M. Teltschik, former Adviser to German Chancellor Helmut Kohl.
Interactive Data Corporation (IDC) has appointed William T. Ethridge to its board of directors. Ethridge is president of Pearson Education's Higher Education and Professional Publishing Group, a division of Pearson plc. He replaces Gloria Samuels, who recently resigned from the company's board.
Yahoo announced the appointment of Gary L. Wilson and Ronald W. Burkle to its board of directors. Wilson is chairman of the board of directors of Northwest Airlines and a director of The Walt Disney Company. Burkle is founder and managing partner of The Yucaipa Companies, widely known for its leadership in acquisitions, mergers and management of large retail and distribution companies.
3i Group plc announces the appointment of Fred G Steingraber as a non-executive director of the company with effect from 01 January 2002. He is chairman emeritus of A.T. Kearney, of which he was chairman of the board and chief executive officer until 2000.
