Irish company Eontec and US firm Tantau Software are to jointly market a wireless e-commerce product for the global on-line financial services sector that they have developed together.

Eontec develops multi-channel banking software and Tantau provides software and services for mobile e-commerce. They will launch a joint sales and marketing campaign to promote BankFrame, Eontec's flagship product, and Tantau's Wireless Internet Platform.

Together, the organisations will provide strategic consultation and support services to retail financial services businesses offering secure wireless banking capabilities to mobile device users.

"What we basically do is encapsulate different banking processes into components and build up individual systems like blocks of Lego," said John Coburn, sales director of Eontec. "By building them up like this we can provide banks with a scaleable solution that won't fall over when it reaches 100,00 customers. Tantau's technology means that our product is now multi-platform and the processes we have developed will help banking systems cope as more and more customers transact from personal devices such as mobile phones and laptops."

Eontec's product will speed up bank response times when adding a new channel for customers, said Coburn, as it will give them a system that is simple for customers to use but sophisticated enough to run across a multi-platform environment.

Eontec expects its existing wireless banking solutions to be significantly improved by adding Tantau's wireless Internet platform. The wireless Internet platform creates a link for a variety of both wireless and wired devices to interact with back-end applications and data sources, according to Tantau.

"Wireless is a significant channel which offers increased market potential to the on-line banking sector. Our association with Tantau creates a key strategic partnership for the development of next generation financial services m-commerce solutions," said Eontec chief executive officer Jim Callan.
