Ideas for great newsletter content

Companies often have a profusion of compelling content, if you know where to look.

Companies often have a profusion of compelling content, if you know where to look. It’s a cliché, but it is true: Content is king. Design and delivery (getting into the inbox) certainly play a role – but in the end it’s your message that will matter to the person on the receiving end.

Marketers seeking to create content-rich newsletters should find they actually have a lot of existing material to pull from. These sources include brochures and other written material. Don't overlook material generated within other departments, as well as the company website and blog(s). With a bit of preparation and thought and re-purposing, this material can be attractively presented in synopsis and article formats in a newsletter.

Here are content ideas that generally perform very well: Case studies, company news, invites, downloads (white papers, etc), tips, product & service news, industry news and useful links.

Don’t forget there are content sources beyond the written word. Perhaps your company has produced communications such as podcasts, webcasts, presentations, photos and videos. Don’t embed or attach the videos or podcasts – link to them on your website.
